Shagreen
Shagreen is a trade name given to common stingray's skins, Dasyatis Pastinaca. Shagreen has been used in decorative objects for centuries, peaking in the eighteenth century. Shagreen had a resurgence in the early twentieth century during the Art Deco period as a material of choice for luxury and modern decorative objects.
The works produced by Maison Delletery involve old and new shagreen skins, always untreated and natural. Tanning technique may be applied during the production to achieve the esthetics necessary to the piece.
